It is my distinct pleasure to serve as the 2016-2017 chair of the Appointed Professionals Advisory Council. At this moment – with coming changes in our national and university presidencies, as well as with our job architecture and budgetary systems – it is essential to unite and make sure our voices are heard and valued. I am excited to lead this charge to ensure that Appointed Professionals (AP) are well-represented in shared governance at the University of Arizona.
APAC’s goals for the year are to continue improving timely and relevant communication to all AP and to increase awareness on campus about who AP are, what we contribute to the University of Arizona, and what we do to improve the work lives of the University’s thousands of AP.
As an organization, we are looking to provide more professional development scholarships to advance and enhance AP careers and skill sets. We also maintain an open line of communications with Human Resources, continuing discussions about possible job architecture changes to the Appointed Professional and Classified Staff employment categories.
We have a targeted but ambitious agenda. That’s why your involvement is more than welcome; it is essential. To effectively represent you, your involvement and input are critical. Even if your time is limited, you can contribute in any number of small yet meaningful ways.
- Join APAC as a member and serve on an internal or external committee to further the goals of APAC and represent AP across campus.
- Attend our monthly meetings, where we often provide guest speakers from the campus community and timely updates on campus-wide issues.
- Bring up an issue via our online Suggestion Box, even if you do not have the time or ability to join APAC, but still have concerns or issues for the group to address.
I am honored and humbled to have been elected to this position for the upcoming year, and to serve you during this critical time. Now more than ever, we need a strong voice in order to make our greatest impact. I look forward to your joining in our endeavor.
